Biography of Leslie Groves
Leslie Groves was a Lieutenant General in the United States Army and the military leader of the Manhattan Project, the program that developed nuclear weapons, from 1942 to 1947.
He was born to an army chaplain and was descended from French Huguenots who arrived in America in the 17th century.
Early Life and Education
Groves studied at the Washington State University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before attending the United States Military Academy at West Point.
After graduating in 1918, he served in the Army Corps of Engineers.
