    This was how Pamenos Ballantyne, this country’s most accomplished road (distance) runner now retired, chose to refer to himself when THE VINCENTIAN caught up with him recently, and prodded him into reflecting on his achievement.

    Ballantyne’s career began in the earlier 1990s when he excelled at both primary and secondary school levels as a distance runner on grass.

    He said he was encouraged to turn to the road and concentrate on the marathon by Lennox bowman, who would become his manager.

    His development in this area led to his participation in the 1995 London Marathon and the following year in the Atlanta Olympic Games Marathon.

    As for his accomplishments in the Caribbean, he has won: the Trinidad Marathon 7 times and still holds the record (time) for that event; the Jamaica Marathon four times and remains the record holder; and the Run Barbados Marathon 5 times.
